My individual therapy is built upon the development of a real relationship between equals that involves mutual self-disclosure. Through collaborative and structured sessions I can help to motivate and understand you. l will be your navigator throughout the process so it doesn’t feel like you have been thrown into the deep waters of the unknown alone.

Couples
Therapy

My couple’s and relationship therapy takes a non-judgemental approach of promoting acceptance and validation as well as focusing on what is needed for change. I will work with you and your partner in developing the skills to shift from emotional dysregulation to increased regulation and effective communication.

Group
Therapy

My group therapy is unique compared to traditional support groups in that not as much time is spent on support or processing feelings between group members. Instead, through developing new tools and completing assignments, you will gain the knowledge you need to build the life you want.

My Approach

I offer a simple approach for mental health issues using DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). My specialty in DBT combined with 15+ years of experience gives you the freedom to be who you are and accept others for who they are. Learning to control your emotions and understanding what can and cannot be controlled is unbelievably life changing. My clients have been able to use the tools learned to make many changes in their communication and emotional regulation while learning to live in the present and resolve past issues. Taking responsibility for your behaviors, not giving others permission to control your feelings and loving yourself first will make a tremendous positive impact in your life.

About me

My life's adventures whether good or not so good have been the road map I have followed to becoming a therapist.  I have been through situations in my life that I feel directly correlate to many of your own issues. My experience not only comes from learning in a classroom but also through life's roller-coaster ride with all of it's ups and downs and scary curves. I would love the opportunity to help you navigate and manage that ride.

Getting Help

The first step is always the hardest so my team and I have integrated a system that is made for busy lifestyles. Safety, support and convenience are paramount for my clients. We are proud to use Sessions by Psychology Today for teletherapy sessions and Therapy Appointment by Psychselect for online scheduling. These tools ensure HIPPA compliance and help us to achieve those values. Potential clients need to contact the office for an initial consultation. Feel free to call, email or use the contact form and chat feature found on the bottom of the website.

 

New and current clients can schedule or change future appointments by visiting the Therapy Appointment website. We ask that you create an account and that new patients fill out the Biographical Information form when they set their first appointment. After creating an account you will also be able to accomplish other tasks, such as sending a secure message, viewing your account balance, making payments or updating your information. After you complete the initial registration by phone or email you can click on this link www.schedule.care (Note that if you manually enter it into your web browser it is literally www.schedule.care; there is no .com.) and you will be redirected to a page where you can search by therapist. Enter Cheryl Kelstrom-Smith into the search box. This will open a page to enter your username and password.  Make sure to set your browser to remember it for next time. You will receive a username and  temporary password from us prior to signing in. You may opt to change your password at this time.

 

For Teletherapy you will receive a link by text or email to join a session on Psychology Today Sessions webpage. Just click on the link at your scheduled session time and it will redirect you to a waiting room where I will join you. If you experience any technical problems, click on the more resources button for possible solutions.
